The evolving public awareness of adverse climate change is significantly shaping the market and consumer demands in many industries. One of the most important decisions a company can make in its quest for environmental neutrality is to choose the right environmentally sustainable headquarters - by choosing such buildings, tenants reduce the environmental footprint of their own operations in the long run, thus meeting ESG goals. Professional certifications - such as BREEAM - provide confirmation that office buildings meet the needs in this field.
BREEAM certifies the extent to which new or existing properties are environmentally friendly. The requirements for BREEAM In-Use certification, which is the certification of an already existing building, focus on ten areas: management, reduction of energy and water consumption, reduction of waste and pollution, land use and ecology, materials, transportation, innovation and also the health and well-being of the occupants.
A BREEAM In-Use certificate “Very Good” was recently obtained by the Red Tower building located in Łódź. Green solutions such as LED indoor and outdoor lighting, water-efficient fixtures and water metres with remote reading were taken into account during certification. Solutions ensuring the comfort of users were also appreciated, including adequate access to natural light, the ability to control natural lighting through blinds in the rooms, adequate intensity of indoor lighting, the ability to control the temperature in the rooms, and two bicycle rooms providing sufficient space for cyclists to store their bikes - an external one and an internal one, located in the old treasury of the building.
