Ogrodowa8 Office Art Gallery "Pop Up"

At the beginning of January, the art gallery Pop Up, curated by Urszula Tarasiewicz, opened with a photography exhibition under the title "Photography and What Next?". The exhibition presented the work of graduates of the Photography Faculty from the Łódź Film School. Hanna Zdanowska, mayor of Łódź was present at the inauguration of the exhibition.

Urszula Tarasiewicz, curator of the Ogrodowa8 Office art gallery Pop Up, says: “While looking through my souvenir drawer, I found a negative prepared by Prof. Prażmowski for one of the school assignments, the topic being, "Photography, and what next?". First thought? – Well, what's next? Where are we, who are we, will we want to tell each other about this in 25 years? This exhibition touches on photography as a field, an idea, a social ritual, a starting point, dreams and reality, but mainly it touches us, deep inside. It is the result of rewinding the photonegative, stopping it at the most important moments and looking at the freeze frame. Intermedium and frame at the same time. This “next”' may not necessarily be in the context of photography. Photography is the beginning, the impulse for expression. Where are each of us at, what do we want to say about ourselves? For many of us, it is a hidden image, exposed for years. This is our continuum, our Photography.”

In February, the Gallery Pop Up hosted a series of meetings with representatives of the Łódź artistic community – including artists, cultural animators, designers, photographers, and musicians. These meetings were part of "Kultura Odporna" [Resilient Culture], a project popular among Łódź residents, which was launched during the pandemic and lockdown in 2020. Its intention was to show that Łódź creators and cultural animators do not 'fall asleep waiting for better times' but stay active and creative.
